The Department of Social Work, AMIK, started functioning from 2007 and initially offered full time master degree (MSW) course in professional Social Work. Students from the very first batch have excelled in academics .The trend continues even today. Our pass out students are well placed in the welfare and development sector.
Realizing that students with graduation (3 years duration) and post graduation (2 year duration) degree in Social Work would become more effective developmental professionals, AMIK introduced 3 year graduation (Hons) course in Social Work (BSW (H)) in 2012.
Professional Social Workers work in the welfare and development sector. The curriculum includes theory and practical classes. Theory classes are conducted in the campus four days a week for MSW and three days a week for BSW (H) students. Qualified teachers ensure academic excellence of the students. Students access 24 hours internet facility and a well equipped up to date library. Special classes are held to improve communication skills. Debates, group discussion , quiz competitions are regularly held .
The practical classes (field work) are held twice a week for all students. Usually students are placed in open communities in the even semester and in development and welfare organizations in the odd semester. Students begin with orientation classes which are conducted in the beginning of each semester. Other field work activities include visit to organizations,, rural camps and educational excursions. Renowned personalities from different fields of Social Work practice visit the college and interact with the students.
